ABSTRACT: This work presents a portion of a larger investigation with the purpose of understanding the construction of a performance by flutists of professional orchestras. We present a parallel study between three flutists and a study by Chaffin e Imreh (2001). Semistructured interviews and recordings of the practice sessions revealed the frequency with which the flutists mentioned characteristics of the musical aspects during the study of the initial solo section of the Choros nº 6 de Villa-Lobos, as compared to those used by Chaffin.
